Suitable For:

Dogs & Puppies (6+ weeks of age, weighing 2+ lbs)

Benefits:

  • Sentinel Spectrum Chews come in a convenient and effective once-a-month dose in a soft beef and bacon-flavor dogs love.In a study of 117 dogs, Sentinel Spectrum Chews were found to be especially well-received.
  • Unique to Sentinel brand products, lufenuron stops flea eggs from hatching.
  • Sentinel Spectrum Chews have been shown to be safe for puppies as young as 6 weeks of age.
  • Sentinel Spectrum Chews Protect against 6 different types of parasites, including:
    • Heartworm: milbemycin oxime prevents Heartworm disease.
    • Hookworms: milbemycin oxime treats and controls adult hookworms.
    • Roundworms: milbemycin oxime treats and controls adult roundworms.
    • Whipworms: milbemycin oxime treats and controls adult whipworms
    • Tapeworms: praziquantel treats and controls adult tapeworms.
    • Fleas Eggs: lufenuron prevents and controls flea populations

How do Sentinel Spectrum Chews work?

Milbemycin oxime, lufenuron, and praziquantel are the active ingredients in Sentinel Spectrum Chews, which work to control fleas, major intestinal worms, and heartworms. Sentinel Spectrum Chews contains an insect growth regulator (IGR), which kills flea eggs thus preventing them from hatching into adult fleas. Sentinel may be given along with Capstar, which treats flea infestation.

Cautions:

Not for use in humans. Keep this drug and all drugs out of the reach of children. Mild, transient hypersensitivity reactions, such as labored breathing, vomiting, hypersalivation, and lethargy, have been noted in some dogs treated with milbemycin oxime carrying a high number of circulating offspring (microfilariae). These reactions are presumably caused by the release of protein from dead or dying offspring. Do not use in puppies less than six weeks of age. Do not use in dogs or puppies weighing under two pounds. The safety of Sentinel Spectrum Chews has not been evaluated in dogs used for breeding or in lactating females.

Brand Name:

Sentinel Spectrum Chews

What is the most important thing I should know about Sentinel Spectrum Chews?

Sentinel Spectrum Chews are indicated for the prevention of heartworm disease caused by Dirofilaria immitis, for the prevention and control of flea populations, and for the treatment and control of adult roundworm, adult hookworm, adult whipworm, and adult tapeworm infections in dogs and puppies two pounds of body weight or greater and six weeks of age and older. The active ingredients are Milbemycin oxime, lufenuron, and praziquantel.

What should I discuss with my veterinarian before giving Sentinel Spectrum Chews to my pet?

Sentinel Spectrum Chews requires a prescription from your veterinarian. Ask your veterinarian if Sentinel Spectrum Chews is right for your pet. Treatment with fewer than 6 monthly doses after the last exposure to mosquitoes may not provide complete heartworm prevention. Prior to administration of Sentinel Spectrum Chews, dogs should be tested for existing heartworm infections. At the discretion of the veterinarian, infected dogs should be treated to remove adult heartworms. Sentinel Spectrum Chews is not effective against adult D. immitis.

How should Sentinel Spectrum Chews be given?

Sentinel Spectrum Chews should be administered orally, once every month, at the minimum dosage of 0.23 mg/lb (0.5 mg/kg) milbemycin oxime, 4.55 mg/lb (10 mg/kg) lufenuron, and 2.28 mg/lb (5 mg/kg) praziquantel. For heartworm prevention, give once monthly for at least 6 months after exposure to mosquitoes. To ensure adequate absorption, always administer Sentinel Spectrum Chews to dogs immediately after or in conjunction with a normal meal. Sentinel Spectrum Chews may be offered to the dog by hand or added to a small amount of dog food. The chewables should be administered in a manner that encourages the dog to chew, rather than to swallow without chewing. Chewables may be broken into pieces and fed to dogs that normally swallow treats whole. Care should be taken that the dog consumes the complete dose, and treated animals should be observed a few minutes after administration to ensure that no part of the dose is lost or rejected. If it is suspected that any of the dose has been lost, redosing is recommended.

What are the potential side effects of Sentinel Spectrum Chews?

The following adverse reactions have been reported in dogs after administration of milbemycin oxime, lufenuron, or praziquantel: vomiting, depression/lethargy, pruritus, urticaria, diarrhea, anorexia, skin congestion, ataxia, convulsions, salivation, and weakness.

What happens if I miss giving a dose of Sentinel Spectrum Chews?

Consult your veterinarian.

What happens if I overdose my pet on Sentinel Spectrum Chews?

Consult your veterinarian in the event of a suspected overdose of Sentinel Spectrum Chews.

What should I avoid while giving Sentinel Spectrum Chews to my pet?

Do not give Sentinel Spectrum Chews to your pet if already giving an alternate heartworm medication.

What other drugs will affect Sentinel Spectrum Chews?

While Sentinel is safe to use in dogs at risk for MDRI-allele mutation (Australian Shepherds, Collies, Shelties, etc.), unless tested normal, caution is advised if your pet is also being given amiodarone (Cordarone), azole antifungals such as ketoconazole, carvedilol (Coreg), cyclosporine (Atopica), diltiazem (Cardizem), erythromycin (Ery-Tabs) or clarithromycin (Biaxin), quinidine, spironolactone (Aldactone), tamoxifen, and verapamil (Calan).

Storage:

Store in a dry place at controlled room temperature, between 59° and 77°F (15-25°C).

Sentinel Spectrum Chews Directions:

  • Sentinel Spectrum Chews should be administered orally, at monthly intervals, beginning within one month of the dog’s first seasonal exposure to mosquitoes and continuing until at least 6 months after the dog’s last seasonal exposure, at the minimum dosage of 0.23 mg/lb (0.5 mg/kg) milbemycin oxime, 4.55 mg/lb (10 mg/kg) lufenuron, and 2.28 mg/lb (5 mg/kg) praziquantel.
  • For heartworm prevention, give once monthly for at least 6 months after exposure to mosquitoes. Setinel Spectrum Chews may be administered year-round without interruption.
  • To ensure adequate absorption, always administer SENTINEL SPECTRUM Chews to dogs immediately after or in conjunction with a normal meal.
  • Sentinel Spectrum Chews may be offered to the dog by hand or added to a small amount of dog food. The chewables should be administered in a manner that encourages the dog to chew, rather than to swallow without chewing.
  • Chewables may be broken into pieces and fed to dogs that normally swallow treats whole. Care should be taken that the dog consumes the complete dose, and treated animals should be observed a few minutes after administration to ensure that no part of the dose is lost or rejected.
  • If it is suspected that any of the dose has been lost, redosing is recommended
Tip:

When administering Sentinel Spectrum Chews to your dog, try wrapping the chew in a small piece of your dog’s favorite treat, like cheese or peanut butter. This not only makes the chew more appealing but also helps ensure your dog consumes the entire dose. If your dog tends to chew things slowly, you can slightly warm the cheese or peanut butter to make it stick better to the chew, encouraging quicker consumption.

I live in Rual PA mountains. This is great.
Because I take my dogs out often to the PA mountains, I needed something strong...and long lasting. This is works for them. One of my dogs will not take the tablet form no matter what I put it in...just found out there is a liquid form to apply to the neck...Just ordered it!

Brevecto
We have used Brevecto for about 5 years now. It's a great product and works like it advertises. We do not have any flea or tick problems on the dogs or in the house even when we don't treat the yard. We will continue to use this product for our fur babies.

Bravest keeps my doggos healthy
I have been giving my dogs Bravecto for years now. They don't mind the taste but prefer a schmear of peanut butter to make it go down easier. I tried another medication like Bravecto before and the smell was very chemical like upon opening it and the dogs would not eat that without peanut butter and cheese wrapping and then I had to give them more treats to get the taste out of their mouth. Bravecto is definitely more appetizing to the dogs and when it tastes good there's no drama.

Great Medicine for my Chihuahua
Spectrum Sentinel is great and perfectly formulated for my dog! The only problem is that it used to be softer and she has a hard time chewing it. We started crushing it into her once a day wet food but she doesn't seem to like that. I've ordered what says chews and also one other that said tablets or tabs. However, they were the same thing and not so easily chewed by my dog. As a matter of fact, if we give it to her whole, she tries to chew it, then rolls on it, as if that will soften it, but ultimately she'll just leave it. I wish it was easier for her but the benefits outweigh the difficulty of getting her to eat it!

Flea and tick meds
Although I do love the Sentinel products, I find the waiting for the prescription to go through the mail and then, waiting for the meds to come after they receive the written script for the meds to take so much longer than before. My pets were without their needs for over a week with the new process.

Our girls have been taking this since they were just pups (or well since their age allowed); never had an issue.

Really 50/50
My pet passed nov 4 2024. I called and changed. And had to do so over and over everytime auto ship comes upand live my dog passing over and over, everytime we call its Its changed here on our end. We dont know why hes still on there every 6 months for me). I have 2 more dogs) Sometimes meds are fast. Sometimes they take 2 weeks and a couple hrs on the phone. The one thing that is consistant. Is them takeing our money. Thats is certain we have had to go to the vet several times to get meds we ran out of waiting. And it sucks because they have the script. Smh. Really not a whole lot of options. Out there. They know that. I think its cute they send these surveys like they care. But. Thats just our experiance. Its 50/50 when its good its good. When its bad its BAD. Waiting for the second half of a autoship flea and tic as we speak. 2 weeks now. Is what it is
